Pilgrim

This lovely fragment is still available. A circular piece of Lantern Glass depicting a scene from the 17th century book... 'A Pilgrim's Progress' by John Bunyan. This beautifully detailed, black image is a romantic/gothic depiction of Christian (the 'Everyman') staring out, with leafless trees filling the background. He is setting out on an allegorical journey and carries many burdens. Along the way he must try to get rid of his burdens. The book is about brave pilgrims. The author believed women as well as men could be brave pilgrims (an idea that was unusual at the time).

I love this fragment and the image. I believe it is a fairly early slide...early to mid 1800's. As a necklace it could be paired with a talisman or another lantern fragment representing 'Woman'..and tell a story about a couple overcoming challenges? Or it could represent the pilgrimage of one specific man. I am still searching for the right narrative...I'm open to ideas.

To give you an idea of how the book is structured as an allegory...here are some of the people's names:
The Interpreter
Watchful
Discretion
Prudence
Charity
Faithful
Envy
Hopeful
Ignorance
Experience
